Florence&TheMachine

Kiss with a Fist got my attention but it was the Going Down cover that won me over. There wasn’t even a video on the youtube link, just a random photo of Florence on bed and another of her collaborator Kid Harpoon to accompany this most infectiously brilliant cover of an old Springsteen song.

I didn’t get to see Florence and her machine people at Oxegen… I was there on Saturday, She was there on Sunday... but I imagine her performance was pretty fabulous and her outfit a suitable match. I read somewhere it was like the black cloak from the Rabbit Heart video with flowers on her head (see below), but I haven’t found any photos yet. I do however have The Sunday Times’ Style magazine from back in May with the images of her in the full Alexander McQueen swarovski crystal ensemble and also the Louis Vuitton feather top and Vivenne Westwood thigh high gold boots.

Florence and the Machine received the Critics’ Choice at this year’s Brit Awards and her new album Lungs has been getting the most positive of reviews. The south London girl of Irish extraction stands apart with her stature, style, personality and most of all voice (Richman). Her Rabbit Heart video is beautifully shot. Directed by Tom Beard and Tabitha Denholm, it’s a mishmash of imagery from Celtic Goddess to Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and a Mid Summer Night’s Dream.

Rabbit Heart video. (On a side note it also reminded me of this lovely photo shoot.)

Florence is one of those people that I would love to style if I was a stylist. Her personal style is kooky-glam-retro I guess, but I reckon with a bit of styling she could wear almost anything. This collection from Ellery 09/10 is suitably gorgeous. I have an acute love/desire for all of it!

HanneliMustaparta

I saw this photo of Hanneli Mustaparta a little while ago on one of style.com’s summer features. The image really stuck out from the rest. It had slipped to the back of my mind but when I saw the wallpaper in Danny Roberts’ illustration LOVE, it instantly reminded me of the photo. So this week I went about finding all the elements... I stumbled across this dress from Dorothy Perkins which is a pretty good resemblance of Hanneli’s reworked vintage version and I reckon her shoes are these acne high boots.

However I think it’s fair to say that what makes this photo is the girl. Hanneli Mustaparta, the Norweigan model/photographer/stylist has got serious style...

visit her blog: www.hanneli.com

On a side note, while I was on the hunt for Hanneli’s blue dress I realized that Whitney Port must have a huge collection of floral print. I’m not sure I’m a fan of all of these dresses on Whitney but the Diane Von Furstenberg striped blazer and pink dress peeping out underneath is a definite winner.

BicycleChicycle

Since we’re midway through National Bike Week in Ireland perhaps a bicycle post is in order. I recently rescued my bicycle from the depths of the garden shed, dusted it down and took it for a most enjoyable spin by the Shannon side. Shortly after, I stumbled across the gorgeous first issue of The Ride... a stunning journal all about lovely bicycles. If you love bikes even a little it’s definitely worth browsing through. Its packed full with beautiful photographs, gorgeous illustrations and riders’ personal stories.

So with a heightened awareness for all things bike, I was intrigued when I heard Beyonce had been spotted whirling around Dublin’s Phoenix Park on two wheels. What was she wearing? Beyonce has been looking really well recently. The Balmain blazer, the enviable shoe collection, and the jumpsuit last week… it all adds up to a fresh new very stylish Beyonce. Her outfit in Dublinwas simple but nice.

So some inspiration for bike chic then?

Dublin City Cycle takes place tomorrow, the organisers are trying to the remove focus of cycling from the gear of sports/hobby cyclists to and make the event more 'cycle chic' (mikael) In fact if I were to pick my favourite bicycle to cycle around Dublin on it would definitely look a lot like the one in this poster

In fact it seems tomorrow will be a busy day for the bikes of the world… in New York the Bicycle Film Festival kicks off - a celebration of bicycles through film, art and music. (I do like this poster also)…

BeingGreen

So there’s no denying the similarities between the much celebrated Balmain emerald green crystal studded mini-dress pioneered by Jennifer Connolly back in Februrary for the Preimer of “He’s not that in you” and the embellished green dress Sienna Miller donned last week for the 2009 MTV Movie Awards from her own Label Twenty8Twelve. But when both looked so great then all is forgiven? In any case it seems the appetite for all things Balmain and most things Balmainesque is somewhat insatiable…

Since designer Christophe Decarnin headed up Balmain in 2005, owner Alain Hivelin reports that sales have doubled despite a general downturn in industry sales. The irresistible trashy/glitzy rock chic glamour of Decarnin’s designs has erupted into what’s been described as "Balmania". His use of embellishment, exaggerated shoulder, overworked jean and signature cut jacket have “shot him to the position of No. 1 most copied designer in the space of two seasons” (Mower). His F2009RTW collection produced more of the exquisite glitzy rock-chic designs. However exactly how much further Decarnin can take this is probably (and sadly) open to question… But for now surely we’ll still gasp every time we see that shoulder:

Chloe♥Chloe

Chloe in Chloe... there's something very appealing about someone wearing something that they clearly love... for example Chloe Sevigny in Chloe shorts and blazer and any number of variations on that.

Along these lines also love... Kate Bosworth in Chloe shorts and Emma Roberts in Helmut Lang blazer
